The Tashkent State Technical University (TSTU)

The Tashkent State Technical University (TSTU) was founded in 1920 as the Technical Faculty of the Turkestan State University. Later, in 1929, the Central Asian Cotton-Irrigation Polytechnic Institute was established based on the Technical Faculty of the Turkestan State University. In 1933, it was transformed into the Central Asian Industrial Institute, in 1949 — into the Central Asian Polytechnic Institute, and in 1961 — into the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute. In 1991, the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute and the Tashkent Machine Engineering Institute were merged to form the Tashkent State Technical University (TSTU). In the same year, on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the birth of Abu Rayhan Biruni, the university was named after him. In 2017, in honor of the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Abduganievich Karimov, the university was renamed the Islam Karimov Tashkent State Technical University. The educational process at the university is conducted in full-time, part-time, and evening formats at the bachelor’s level, as well as in full-time format at the master’s level. The academic year begins annually in September based on the credit-module system. Tashkent State Technical University, as the leading higher educational institution, heads the Coordinating Industry Councils for the fields of "Engineering", "Manufacturing and Processing", and "Labor Hygiene and Safety".
